Color Atlas of Dermatology Pictures, pictures and more pictures! This new atlas, authored by five dermatologists, contains more than 1,200 full-color photographs that cover the full spectrum of skin lesions and dermatologic diseases.
Following a brief introduction that defines commonly used terminology, the atlas is divided into three major sections that cover the "cornerstones of dermatologic diagnosis." The first section, which contains photographs of lesions grouped by morphology, includes chapters on macules, papules, plaques, nodules, vesicles, pustules, erosions, purpura and ulcers. The second section is grouped by lesion configuration. The various disorders are categorized according to whether the lesions are annular, linear, gyrate, grouped or reticulated. The final section is organized by distribution and regional predilection and includes chapters on nail disorders, oral lesions, intertriginous and genital problems, and lesions of the hands and feet.
The atlas, with its large, clear photographs is easy to use because lesions are grouped by appearance and location rather than by disease category. Thus, when faced with a patient with an unknown skin lesion, the physician can categorize the lesion by morphology, configuration and distribution and refer to the appropriate chapters under each of these three sections.
